"Henty's books relentlessly preach the virtues of family loyalty, female modesty and
patriotism."Economist Harry Sandwith, a Westminster boy, becomes a resident at the chateau of a French marquis. After various adventures he accompanies the family to Paris at the height of the French Revolution. Imprisonment and death reduce their number, and Harry finds himself beset by perils with the three young daughters of the house in his charge. After narrow escapes they reach Nantes. There the girls are condemned to death in the coffin ships, but are saved by the unfailing courage of their young protector. George Alfred Henty (1832-1906) was born in Trumpington, England. He studied at Cambridge but left without his degree to serve in the Crimean War. After several failed attempts at careers, he decided in 1865 to become a writer, beginning as a correspondent for The Standard. He wrote his first boys' adventure, Out of the Pampas, in 1868, and its popularity spurred him to write some eighty more children's books. Stuart Langton is an award-winning actor based in New York City. He works in theater, film, and TV and has narrated audiobooks for more than ten years. Other Audio Books you may be interested in
